“The goal was very important,” said Juventus head coach Simone Varesca.
“We were hoping to score a third goal but we were also hoping to go into the Champions and win the competition.
The result means we’re one of the best teams in the league.”
Juventus had looked to get back on track after the 2-0 victory over Udinese at the weekend, but they were unable to do so.
Varela struck twice as the Bianca were held to a 1-0 defeat by the Nerazzurri, and the goalscorer was forced to wait for an injury to Antonio Candreva.
